Echocardiography Technology Roadmap
Canadian Health Authority
Project Focus Areas
- Context
A Canadian health authority that offers echocardiograms across its acute care sites was utilizing two separate echocardiography information systems. Having two systems was making it difficult to share information across sites and was not optimal from a continuity of care perspective. The client was looking to upgrade these systems and required a technology roadmap including an assessment of the opportunity to move to a single system.
- Our Approach
- Conducted a thorough assessment of current operational processes at each site, which involved process mapping, system architecture diagrams, and the identification of pain points.
- Interviewed clinical and technical subject matter experts to understand key clinical applications, processes, and challenges.
- Delivered an in-depth current state assessment which highlighted existing processes, jurisdiction scan results, overall key findings, key pain points for clinical users, strengths, and opportunities.
- Led clinical interviews and workshops to gather functional requirements to aid in the development of a Request for Information (RFI) from potential vendors for a new system.
- Developed a RFI document and supported a procurement process to solicit responses from industry leaders.
- Evaluated RFI responses including detailed vendor demonstrations addressing unique clinical use cases.
- Outcome
Cascadia’s collaboration with the health authority resulted in a strategic technology roadmap and a business case to support the replacement of existing echocardiography systems.
