Cascadia supported a large BC municipality’s waste collection department to implement new technology throughout their waste collection vehicle fleet and back office. The municipality leveraged new technology in order to address a growing population, increased frequency of service requests and increasing complexity in their business.
Cascadia completed the following activities:
•Worked closely in the field with department managers, supervisors and vehicle operators to understand day-to-day operations
•Identified opportunities to reduce operating costs, reduce lost revenue, improve customer management and increase service levels which were translated into functional requirements
•Completed an RFP process, evaluated various technology platforms and managed a proof of concept project with the leading vendor
•Developed the proof of concept, which included vehicle mounted GPS devices, RFID scanners and driver tablets, as well as back-office service management and dispatching. This allowed the municipality to validate the technology, identify customizations required for the municipality to fully adopt the system and achieve their target benefits
The municipality validated the technology and their business case prior to committing to a large technology contract, and negotiated a fixed fee implementation price. Soon after, the municipality rolled out the solution across their entire waste collection fleet
